Job Description

Role Overview

The EHS Manager develops and administers facility Environmental, Health, and Safety programs in alignment with regulatory requirements, corporate policies, and operational objectives. This role fosters facility-wide awareness, engagement, and accountability for EHS matters to ensure full integration of safety and sustainability initiatives with business operations. The EHS Manager oversees activities that minimize organizational risk and promote sustainable practices. This position provides general support for facilities with more than 350 employees, particularly those with complex environmental and safety needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or facilitate the facility EHS Safety Committee.
  • Serve as a member of the plant Leadership Team.
  • Drive the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the facility’s EHS Management System.
  • Identify and apply EHS best practices, managing through Safety and Environmental Pillars of World Class Operations Management (WCOM).
  • Plan EHS initiatives for the facility, including setting goals, prioritizing needs, and establishing systems for performance monitoring and improvement.
  • Assist managers, supervisors, and employees in implementing innovative strategies to enhance safety, reduce environmental impact, and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct or coordinate EHS inspections and assessments to confirm compliance, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Provide progress reports to corporate and facility leadership regarding EHS goals, metrics, and performance indicators.
  • Ensure understanding and proper management of EHS legal requirements, codes, permits, and licenses affecting the facility.
  • Maintain records and data necessary for internal and external reporting, regulatory requests, and compliance verification.
  • Recommend and follow up on corrective actions for concerns identified through inspections, monitoring, or incident investigations.
  • Evaluate new materials and processes to ensure regulatory compliance, promote safety, and minimize environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with engineering on the design and implementation of equipment or process changes to reduce hazards and environmental impact.
  • Provide training and resources to ensure personnel understand corporate and governmental EHS regulations and requirements.
  • Promote and lead the development of a high-performance EHS culture throughout the facility.
  • Maintain, implement, and review EHS policies, procedures, and responsibilities, while developing initiatives that engage employees and enhance EHS performance.
  • Monitor facility activities to ensure compliance with regulations and corporate EHS initiatives.
  • Manage incident investigations to ensure timely reporting, identification of root causes, and tracking of corrective actions to closure.
  • Plan, develop, and deliver effective EHS training for employees, contractors, and visitors.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS, engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant manufacturing experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in EHS roles.
  • Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager) are a plus.
