Job Description

Import/Export Coordinator

International Freight Forwarding – Houston, TX

$55,000 – $65,000 Base + Benefits

ABOUT

We are representing a well-established, independently owned freight forwarder and NVOCC with a network covering 34 countries and a strong commercial and operational presence across the U.S. Gulf Coast.

In operation since 1991, they have built their Houston business on the back of the energy, chemical, and industrial sectors that define this market. Their office handles a consistent daily volume of air and ocean shipments across both import and export, with key trade lanes running into Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.

The team is experienced and the operation is well-run. They are adding an Import/Export Coordinator to support growing volume across their air and ocean desk and to take ownership of a defined account base from day one.

This is a full-time, on-site role in Houston. It suits someone who knows the work, takes ownership of their files, and does not need to be chased.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate and manage air and ocean import and export shipments from booking through to final delivery and file closure
  • Prepare, review, and process all relevant shipping documentation including bills of lading, house B/Ls, commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates of origin, and export declarations
  • File AES/EEI submissions accurately and in compliance with U.S. export regulations
  • Liaise with airlines, steamship lines, NVOCCs, customs brokers, drayage providers, and overseas agents to ensure timely movement and clearance of cargo
  • Track shipments proactively and communicate status updates to clients, resolving delays, holds, and discrepancies without waiting to be asked
  • Arrange and confirm container pickups and deliveries for ocean import shipments
  • Review and verify freight invoices for accuracy before approving for payment
  • Maintain complete and compliant shipment files in CargoWise or equivalent TMS platform

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in international freight forwarding operations covering both import and export
  • Working knowledge of air and ocean freight procedures, documentation requirements, and U.S. customs clearance processes
  • Practical experience with AES/EEI filing and a solid understanding of U.S. export compliance obligations
  • Familiarity with FCL and LCL ocean freight operations including bill of lading preparation and steamship line coordination
  • Experience with CargoWise or a comparable freight management system is strongly preferred
  • Detail-oriented, organised under pressure, and comfortable managing multiple live shipments simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for direct client and vendor interaction
  • Based in Houston with full-time on-site availability

WHAT'S ON OFFER

  • $55,000 – $65,000 base salary depending on experience
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with company contribution
  • Paid time off and public holidays
  • A stable, well-structured operation with a defined account base and a supportive team around you
  • Clear path to senior coordinator and operations roles for the right person
