The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for delivering high-quality tax compliance and advisory services within a regional professional services firm. This role focuses on three primary responsibilities: preparing complex tax returns across multiple entity types, conducting technical tax research to ensure accuracy and compliance, and supporting staff development while serving as a resource for tax-related matters. This position is critical to ensuring accurate filings, maintaining regulatory compliance, and providing value-added insights to clients.
Key Responsibilities:
• Prepare complex tax returns including corporate, S-corporation, partnership, nonprofit, and individual filings
• Conduct tax research to support accurate reporting and resolve complex tax issues
• Prepare income tax projections and quarterly estimated tax calculations
• Assist in the preparation of tax provisions and accrual workpapers
• Gather, organize, and analyze client financial information for tax preparation
• Apply knowledge of tax law and regulations to ensure compliance and accuracy
• Serve as a technical resource to junior staff on tax-related questions and issues
• Act as a point of contact for client inquiries and information requests
• Support training and development of junior team members
• Manage multiple engagements and deadlines effectively
• Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to firm processes and standards
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• CPA, CPA candidate, or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) required
• Minimum of 3–5 years of professional accounting experience
• Prior experience in public accounting preferred
• Experience preparing a variety of tax returns (corporate, partnership, individual) required
Special Requirements:
• Active CPA license, CPA candidacy, or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) designation
• Strong understanding of federal and state tax regulations
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines during peak tax seasons
• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality of client financial information
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Strong technical knowledge of tax compliance, tax law, and accounting principles
• Understanding of differences between tax and GAAP reporting (e.g., revenue recognition, expense deductibility)
• Proficiency in tax preparation and accounting software
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to conduct and interpret tax research
• Effective written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial tools

This position operates in a hybrid work environment within a regional office setting, combining in-office collaboration with remote work flexibility. The role may require extended hours during peak tax seasons to meet client deadlines.
